» *Akyaka preparing to be Cittaslow....
Cittaslow is a growing international network of over 120 towns in 18 countries across the world that have adopted a set of common goals and principles to enhance their quality of life for residents and visitors.
In simple terms, Cittaslow towns aim to be great places to live, work and visit. They aim to support local businesses, foster local traditions, protect the environment, welcome visitors, and encourage active participation in community life.
Each Cittaslow town commits to working towards a set of over 50 goals and principles that aim to improve its quality of life. These goals and principles provide tangible benchmarks against which a town can measure its progress and act as a mechanism to bring local people from all walks of life together to work collectively for the good of their town.
However, Cittaslow is about more than a set of 50 goals and principles. It is a way of thinking. It is about caring for your town and the people who live and work in it or visit it. It is about celebrating and promoting diversity and avoiding the ‘sameness’ that afflicts too many towns in the modern world. It is about finding a place in a changing world where values are often uncertain and the needs and aspirations of local communities can often be overlooked.

» * A day trip to Ephesus from Akyaka
Ephesus is the most famous, the most complete, and, on the downside, probably the most crowded ancient site in Turkey. Nevertheless, it really is a ‘must see’ – if not on your first visit to Turkey, then certainly at some point.
Even though Akyaka is a wonderful place to just sit and do nothing, on occasions the urge will hit you to go somewhere.
There are many places within relatively easy reach of Akyaka, of architectural, historical, and geological interest. The list below is certainly not complete, but covers many of the most famous and stunning sites that are within a maximum of 3 hours drive from Akyaka – many are much closer, the approximate journey time and directions are given against each.
Only three and a half hours' drive (276 km) from Ankara via Kırşehir-Hacıbektaş and Gülşehir highway, you reach one of the most popular tourist destinations in Turkey: Cappadocia - literally "the land of beautiful horses" in Persian, and a fantasy land of fairy chimneys.
Kartal Hotel and Grand Kartal offer the same ski lifts to their guests, all for free of charge. You have a selection of several blue, about for red and couple of black slopes. Compared to most of the European black slopes these are easier. The total length of slopes is 20 km, there are two chairlifts, 6 ski lifts and two baby lifts.

» * A day out to Marmaris
Marmaris or Green Marmaris as it likes to be known, is, at least to tourists, the most famous town on this part of the coast, as is evidenced by the crowds of tourists packing the beach, the cafes, and the hotels.
Although it will come as a huge culture shock after peaceful Akyaka, it is still worth the occasional trip, if only so that you will enjoy Akyaka that much more when you come back. Having said that, there are a few interesting parts of Marmaris that are well worth a visit.
